At St. Andrews Sathorn Bangkok international kindergarten, we regard every facet of learning and development within the Development Matters curriculum as essential for establishing the groundwork for higher skills that children need to learn in school in order to succeed in the modern world.
Every child in our nursery is given access to nutritious meals that are freshly prepared daily and cover all of the major food groups. Moreover, we accommodate specific dietary requirements, such as allergen-free foods and vegetarian options. Food served in the school canteen is Halal.
We understand the essential role of sleep in children’s growth. Therefore, we have set up nap times for the children. St. Andrews Sathorn teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff work together in helping the children feel at ease as they take a nap.
Our British kindergarten in Bangkok emphasises learning in these core areas:
1) Physical Development
During the first few years, children undergo rapid and continuous motor development, which is categorised into two: gross motor skills (those that involve large muscles, like crawling, walking, independent sitting, and running) and fine motor skills (those that involve smaller muscles, like grasping, drawing, or moving objects). At St. Andrews Sathorn international kindergarten, all teachers, teaching assistants, and staff are trained to adeptly assist children so that they can use and fine-tune their motor skills safely.
Our kindergarten activities are designed to encourage children’s sensory experiences and enhance their physical strength, spatial perception, and coordination. Children in our Bangkok international kindergarten play with bricks and blocks, learn self-feeding and how to wear their shoes, manipulate various objects, and more.
To further promote the safety and well-being of every child in our care, we intently uphold safety and inclusivity as key elements of our school culture. We implement robust Safeguarding policies within our kindergarten, including the assignment of a Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a dedicated Safeguarding Team. Moreover, we emphasise that Safeguarding is a shared duty among all members of our school community.
2) Language and Communication
The highly skilled teaching staff at St. Andrews Sathorn international kindergarten closely watches the children and engages them in activities that incorporate their interests. They echo what children say and help expand their vocabulary with words that the children are already familiar with. This approach enhances the children’s language proficiency while building their confidence in communicating.
The children are encouraged to freely communicate their ideas, emotions, and choices—something that is quite helpful during play activities, especially when children have to share toys or borrow from their peers.
3) Personal, social, and emotional development
Finally, our international kindergarten in Bangkok nurtures children’s Personal, Social and Emotional Development (or PSED) by promoting relationships with other people in the school. As children form positive relationships with teachers, staff, and their peers, they begin understanding their personal feelings and the feelings of other people.
That serves as the basis of their emotional intelligence (EQ). Researchers have linked high EQ to numerous positive effects, such as higher job satisfaction, better relationships, lower stress levels, and more.
